NEVER ALONE
Never leave a child unattended around water, under ANY circumstances even for a moment! A flotation device does not replace adult supervision.

FENCE IT IN
Install a barrier around the entire perimeter of the pool and ensure that all doors and windows leading to the pool area are locked. The barrier should include a self-closing door/gate and vertical bars with openings no wider than 4 inches

EYES OPEN
Have a dedicated "water watcher" pool side at all times. This person should be situated where they can clearly see the entire area of the pool and everyone in it. Have capable adults take turns as "water watchers" so they remain alert and attentive. When switching duty, always have the new person confirm verbally that they are "on duty". No using your phone while on duty.

LEARN CPR
Hopefully, you will never need to use this life saving skill but give yourself peace of mind by taking a course and becoming certified.

DUMP IT OUT
Drain buckets, inflatable pools, and anything that retains a sizable amount of water after use and store them upside down so water cannot collect in them.

HAVE A PLAN
Create a family/friends "water safety plan" and make sure everyone follows the rules - always swim with a buddy, inexperienced swimmers stay on the steps, no diving in shallow water, etc.

DON'T DRINK AND SWIM
Do not mix alcohol and swimming.
